The GEE

Gonzaga Dormitory Housing

Active West Builders has begun another infill building project. A 14-unit co-op housing project near the Gonzaga Campus will be completed in summer of 2011. Following the United States Green Building Council practices, Active West Builders is targeting another LEED® Platinum Certified Building.

The Gee will be a 3-story 14-unit co-op housing project for Gonzaga University students. Amenities will include an atrium kitchen and lounge area, media pit, laundry services, wireless internet access, and a 1st floor radiant colored concrete slab. Not only will the high efficiency boiler heating the building be a real plus, but each floor will be equipped with mini-split heat pump unit providing supplemental heat as well as air condition. Also, extensive analysis was done on fresh air and airflow in the building and coupled with the low VOC and formaldehyde content of all materials; this building will have the cleanest air quality of any building in the area.

Active West Builders standard construction method is assembling wall panels off-site so that the waste factor as well as quality control is maintained. Wall panels are delivered to the site in phases due to the infill nature of the project and erected on a per floor method. Efficiency, construction waste, and quality of framing all are elevated based on the building practices. All construction waste from the demo of the existing building to the construction waste is over 90% recyclable which is verified.
